CD-Player, CD-Drive and DAC

The musical advantages of digital sound.

CD-player, modified
Hawk CD-Player and CD-Drive
The newest models from Philips are converted to an "integrated" CD-Player or a CD-Drive. The latter only has a digital signal at the output to be converted by an external D/A-converter (DAC).

In the player we altered the power supply, added an extra power transformer, suppressed jitter by better decoupling of the digital circuits and inserted a new analog output amplifier. The converter is the standard Philips converter.

In the CD-drive we added an extra power transformer, decoupled the digital circuits to supress jitter and altered the output circuit. A BNC connector is inserted to give a "real" 75 Ohm connection. All analog circuitry is removed.

MP-DAC, D/A converter
MP-DAC, a converter developed by Hawk Audio
The MP-DAC, designed by Marko Pol, is developed with analog sound in mind. The converter chip is from Crystal, a major manufacturer in this field. After conversion to analog a "passive" filter is used. The output is a discrete amplifier with a circuit as in our A-18 power amplifier, using only 4 transistors for the amplification.

The now delivered model is the third version of this DAC (Mk III).
